Do collagen drinks really work?
I get asked this a lot so..... Here is my "food for thought": Collagen is a very large protein and like all other proteins needs to be broken down before it can be absorbed by the body. Collagen drinks & powders provide protein just like what we get from our foods & protein shakes Unless we have unusual requirements we do not need any more. Also collagen itself has a naturally unpleasant taste and so a lot of collagen products have added sweetners which can have a detrimental effect on the skin. My recommendation: Take " collagen builders" to support the production of healthy strong collagen; These include: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, E, zinc & antioxidants. These in the form of supplements are a better step forward. Also medical grade skincare will contain all of these ingredients in a 'bio available' form that the body can easily absorb. Highlighting the difference that I always bang on about between medical grade skincare and off the shelf products!
